Established in 1854, Pain Court is an agricultural village in southwestern Ontario, Canada, in the municipality of Chatham-Kent. Settlement of the region began in the 1780s when English and French-speaking squatters from the Detroit area moved along the lower Thames River. By the 1820s, one of the earliest French-speaking Franco-Ontarian communities in southern Ontario had developed in Dover Township in what became known as “The Pain Court Block”.
